Professional Visit Pass, Sarawak
A separate Sarawak application, and one of the few still done on paper.
The short answer
A Sarawak Professional Visit Pass covers short professional or technical assignments carried out in Sarawak while the worker remains on a foreign payroll. It is applied for separately from the federal equivalent, and a federal Professional Visit Pass does not authorise the same work in Sarawak. Unlike the Sarawak Employment Pass, it has not moved to ALIANCE and is still processed manually.
Has this moved to ALIANCE?
No. The Professional Visit Pass, the Spouse Programme Employment Pass, the Dependent Pass and the passes of expatriates’ domestic helpers all remain manual processes in Sarawak. No administrative charge has been announced for them, unlike the ALIANCE Employment Pass charge.
What documents does a Sarawak PVP need?
- Sponsoring company documents: SSM registration and constitutional documents.
- A letter of appointment or the contract between the foreign employer and the Sarawak host.
- The applicant’s passport, with sufficient validity.
- Qualifications and experience supporting the technical nature of the assignment.
- A defined scope and duration for the assignment.
- A company representative letter identifying who is authorised to file.

How is it different from the federal pass?
The instrument looks similar. The authority, the documents and the processing route are all different. Sarawak applies its own policy on which technical roles justify bringing someone in instead of hiring locally, and your file is decided in Kuching.
