What is MTEP?
MTEP is a federal pass route for foreign technology entrepreneurs, allowing them to establish and run a technology venture in Malaysia without an employer sponsor.

Foreign founders of technology companies intending to base a venture in Malaysia.
Key facts
- Unlike an Employment Pass, it does not require a Malaysian employer to sponsor the applicant.
- It is assessed on the venture and the founder’s track record. No salary threshold applies.
- It is one of three routes founders commonly compare, alongside MD Status and DE Rantau.
