SOCSO registration for domestic helpers
Something you are required to do as an employer. It is not a benefit you are choosing to give her.
The short answer
Employers of foreign domestic helpers must register with PERKESO (SOCSO) and contribute for the Employment Injury Scheme. The obligation sits with the household as employer, and the contribution is paid by the employer. It is not deducted from the helper’s salary. Registration and payment are done through the ASSIST portal. Failure to register is an offence, and an unregistered household carries the cost of a workplace injury itself.
Who has to register?
Any household employing a foreign domestic helper. The duty follows the employment relationship, so it applies from the point the helper begins work, not from the point the household gets around to it.
How is registration and payment done?
- Register as an employerThe household registers with PERKESO and obtains an employer code.
- Register the helperThe helper is added as an employee against that code.
- Pay through ASSISTContributions are submitted and paid through the ASSIST portal each month.
- Keep the receiptsContribution records are asked for at permit renewal.
What does the contribution actually cover?
The Employment Injury Scheme covers injury arising out of and in the course of employment, including commuting accidents, along with medical treatment and disability benefit. In plain terms: if she is hurt, that becomes an insured event instead of a bill landing on your household.
