What is PLKS?
The PLKS, or Temporary Employment Visit Pass, is the permit held by a foreign worker in non-executive employment in Malaysia. It is tied to a named employer and an approved sector.

Who does it apply to?
Foreign workers in approved sectors (manufacturing, construction, plantation, agriculture and services) and their employers.
Key facts
- A PLKS is issued against an approved labour quota; the quota comes first.
- It is tied to one employer. It does not transfer with the worker to a new employer.
- It is renewed annually. A lapsed pass counts as an overstay, not a late renewal.
- Sarawak issues its own; a Peninsular Malaysia PLKS does not authorise work in Sarawak.
- The employer carries the levy, the insurance and the statutory contributions. None of it may be passed to the worker.
